Animal Evolution: Last Word on Sponges-First?
نویسنده
چکیده
A major problem in understanding animal evolution is where early branching phyla, especially sponges and comb jellies (sea gooseberries), sit in the tree of life. A new study seeks to overcome this problem by sampling more species and data cleansing.

Embracing Uncertainty in Reconstructing Early Animal Evolution.
The origin of animals, one of the major transitions in evolution, remains mysterious. Many key aspects of animal evolution can be reconstructed by comparing living species within a robust phylogenetic framework. However, uncertainty remains regarding the evolutionary relationships between two ancient animal lineages - sponges and ctenophores - and the remaining animal phyla. Comparative morphol...
متن کاملEfficacy of CIDR or FGA Sponges with hCG Treatments on the Conception Rate and Prolificacyin Lori Ewes Out of the Breeding Season
Two experiments were performed to determine the effectiveness of different progestogens contained in intravaginal devices, different doses of eCG and subsequent hCG treatment on the reproductive performance of estrus-induced mature Lori ewes. In the first experiment, 88 ewes were allocated into two groups, and were treated with either fluorogestone acetate (FGA) sponges or Controlled Internal D...
متن کاملGenomic data do not support comb jellies as the sister group to all other animals.
Understanding how complex traits, such as epithelia, nervous systems, muscles, or guts, originated depends on a well-supported hypothesis about the phylogenetic relationships among major animal lineages. Traditionally, sponges (Porifera) have been interpreted as the sister group to the remaining animals, a hypothesis consistent with the conventional view that the last common animal ancestor was...
متن کاملThe Effects of Short and Long Term Medroxy Progesterone Acetate (MAP) Sponge Treatments on Reproductive Performance during the Non-Breeding Season of Arabian Ewes
The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive efficiency of short and long term treatment with progestagens in addition to pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) in Arabian ewes during the non-breeding season. A total of 56 ewes were divided into three groups: in group I vaginal sponges (60 mg medroxy progesterone acetate; MAP) were applied and removed after 6 days; in group II, vagin...
متن کاملEffect of Different Progesterone Protocol and Low Doses of Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin (eCG) on Oestrus Synchronization in Arabian Ewes
This experiment was conducted to determine the reproductive performance of Arabian ewes treated with short and long-term progesterone devices in addition to low doses of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) during the anoestrus season. A total of 36 ewes were divided into three groups: in group I vaginal sponges (60 mg medroxy progesterone acetate; (MAP)) were applied and removed after 6 days; i...
